A recent blind tasting of the Montlandrie 2009 showed the team just how impressive this estate is. Situated on the clay and limestone slopes near the windmill in Castillon, Montlandrie is another wine from the Durantou stable that punches well above its weight. Picked between the 9th and 12th of October and produced from 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, this is a sumptuous example which displays masses of high toned floral prettiness, notes of graphite and violets, with a core of bilberries and cranberries. The structure is really impressive with chalky ripe tannins and serious mineral length.
From soils akin to Saint-Emilion without the accompanying price tag, this Merlot dominant wine offers notes of crushed berries, anise, and cocoa, with a touch of oak. Medium-bodied with fleshy fruit, delivering firm, dry tannins on the finish. Would pair well with smoked pork chops or chicken with rice and beans.
