Notes from the Hagefen Merlot 2013: This Merlot from the Napa Valley in California has a ruby garnet color that is deep in the middle and brighter at the rim. This is a young wine with lots of wood and fruit on the nose. The wine was definitely oaked for at least 12 months, possibly longer.
This wine has lots of dill and vanilla and the fruit is see-sawing between red and black such as raspberries and blackberries. This is a big wine, woody and acidic in the mouth. This is not a wine that builds but one that definitely punches you in the face. There is no subtlety here but big and bold flavors. This wine is best served at room temperature.
