Top 41% of wines from Terre Siciliane- Average Rating 3.9
Nero d’Avola is one of the most renowned red grape varieties grown indigenously in Sicily and is one of Italy’s most important indigenous varieties.
Nice full-bodied Nero D’Avola. The wine is dark, juicy, red fruit and a hint of blackberry ,clove and pepper on the palate, with strong tannins. Wild flowers bouquet. Dark purple. Smooth finish. Grilled pork or chicken are ideal food partners.
The Nero d’Avola vine variety was imported by Greeks during their stay on the island; the “low-lying” training was also brought into use by them. Typically trained in espalier or tree fashion. It is named after Avola in the far south of Sicily, and its wines are compared to New World Shirazes, with sweet tannins and plum or peppery flavors. It also contributes to Marsala Rubino blends.
