Red fruits, mint and flowers flit around the palate in an utterly charming style. This medium-bodied Gamay will pair really well with salmon simmered in a light cherry or cranberry and red wine sauce, with lightly seasoned lamb chops, roasted chicken, fine cheeses and more. This is a great example of good Beaujolais.
Chenas is between Julienas and Moulin-à-Vent. It used to be part of Moulin-à-Vent, but has a somewhat different character. At 250ha it is the smallest Beaujolais cru. The area used to be covered in oak forests; ‘chêne’ is French for ‘oak’. Medium ruby, it has a fruity nose, strawberry, raspberry, red cherry. Slightly floral. The palate is a big hit of black pepper and ripe redcurrants. No carbonic maceration, the oak is delicate. Medium tannins, balanced acidity.
