This wine has expressive black cherry aromas and firm structure in the mouth. Its mineral underpinning and firm but ripe tannins help it age perhaps longer than any of the Beajolais crus.
The 2017 Moulin-à-Vent Vieilles Vignes opens in the glass with notes of blackberries, spicy cherries, menthol and licorice. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, framed by powdery, somewhat astringent tannins that reflect this hail-impacted vintage. It’s a creditable effort in a challenging year.
