Place 12 water crackers on a baking sheet. Cut the ham slices into quarters, and the Swiss cheese slices into eighths. Layer one piece of Swiss cheese, one piece of ham, and another piece of Swiss cheese on each cracker. Place another cracker on top, sprinkle with a small amount of grated gruyere, and place under broiler for two minutes, until gruyere begins to brown and Swiss cheese begins to melt.
